Pickens County School District will be closed on Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend.

This is just a reminder that Pickens County School District's first virtual learning day is Friday, August 30th.

Last week, our Hawks took part in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, contributing valuable data on the pollinators at our school to the University of Georgia for their research! After the count, everyone celebrated with a fun pollinator party in the gazebo. Thank you, Mrs. Chapman, for organizing this event. It was a "buzzing" good time!

Students in Mrs. Connelly fourth grade ELA class have been learning how to be a community of readers and how to be active listeners. They are buddy reading during the reading workstations and are using dialogue circles to enforce listening skills. Students are able to think while someone's talking and to formulate a response. They are listening and seeking to understand what they're saying, their perspective and point of view. Students are engaged, attentive and listening to their peers. It's a win-win!

Our Little Free Library at the front of the school just got a fresh batch of new reads! Swing by and grab a book or two! Happy Reading!

Congratulations to our Perseverance Award winners! We celebrate your hard work and "can do" spirit. Keep pushing forward—you’re doing amazing!

Mrs. Everett's PreK class had a blast sorting Goldfish crackers! After enjoying the story "Rainbow Fish," the students had some hands-on fun. They sorted their crackers by color and discovered which color was the most and least plentiful.

Hey, Hawks! We want you at school every day because it's cool to be at school!

Tonight is Curriculum Night for families of 4th graders! Our Title I meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and Curriculum Night is at 6:00 p.m. in the gym. Please join us!

Reading rocks! Check out Mrs. Wisniewski's second graders following independent reading time!
They're practicing a "turn and talk book talk," where each student introduces the book they read. They shared the author, summarized the beginning, middle, and end, and told us their favorite part. They also gave great recommendations on why others might enjoy the book too!

Mrs. Rhodes' third graders are honing their skills in having constructive conversations after reading the story “Give Bees a Chance!" Today, they practiced asking and answering comprehension questions, learning how to engage thoughtfully and respectfully with each other.

The Hawk is passed to ... Our fabulous kindergarten paraprofessionals! Here's why Mrs. Mosley honored them - "As a former kindergarten teacher, I have seen how the kindergarten parapros go above and beyond just working in the kindergarten classrooms. From greeting students in the morning with smiles and encouragement to have a good day, helping the kindergarten teachers build the foundation for future educational success for Hill City students, to assisting other grade level teachers with helping students reach their full potential, the kindergarten parapros go above and beyond! They look at all students in the school building as their students. You ladies help Hill City students feel important, welcomed, and loved. Your hard work and dedication is impactful and valued. You do hard things well!"

Just had an awesome moment at Hill City! The students were ecstatic to see the GOODYEAR Blimp flying over the playground today!

Thinking outside the box! Inspired by Antoinette Portis's "Not a Box," students in our Computer Lab faced an exciting cardboard STEM challenge!
Student teams took on the task of engineering a freestanding house and tower using just pieces of cardboard. The key word of the day? "Compromise." Working together and finding common ground was essential for success.

Cheers to Friday! Thank you to the PHS cheerleaders and football players who helped greet our car riders today. We wish you luck tonight against Pepperell! Go Dragons!

It's More Than a Meal Application - Completing the Free and Reduced Lunch Application helps in many areas beyond just free or reduced price meals. Just one form ensures continued funding to support all students in Pickens County School District.
Please fill out a new application every year at https://www.pickens.k12.ga.us/o/pcs/page/free-reduced-meals.

Farm to table experience! Fresh produce from the Hill City garden is making its way into our cafeterias! Yesterday, our cherry tomatoes added a burst of flavor to salads, and today, crisp cucumbers were served with ranch dressing. Plus, the larger tomatoes—including heirloom varieties—along with peppers, basil, and more cucumbers, have headed over to Pickens High School to enhance their salad bar.

Mark your calendar! Fall Picture Day is Thursday, 9/12/2024.
