Deputy Roach expands his duties to "Stuffy Surgeon!"
When a second grader approached Deputy Roach with a request to help his beloved stuffed rabbit whose leg was falling off, our favorite deputy didn't hesitate. He tracked down a sewing kit and performed a top-notch "surgery." The bunny patient was placed in recovery—right on Deputy Roach's office couch—and the student was allowed to visit until bunny was feeling better.
We’re thrilled to report a full recovery for our brave stuffy, thanks to the expert skills and big heart of Deputy Roach!

We are cheering for Harper! This young reader in Mrs. Bryson's class has mastered the kindergarten high-frequency words and met the end-of-the-year goal! She celebrated by choosing a great new book from the Book Vending Machine. Well done, Harper! Congratulations on your BIG achievement!

Hippity-hoppity, let's draw some bunnies!
Mrs. Hamilton's PreK artists put their creativity to work as they followed "directed drawing" instructions to create the sweetest bunny rabbits. Just look at their adorable masterpieces!

Mrs. Collins' students had an egg-cellent week of learning!
They researched online using Pebble Go, exploring exciting topics and gathering facts for their projects. Then, they practiced multiplication with a fun game of "Shake the Egg"—rolling dice, solving problems, and building skills with every shake!

It was an EPIC battle! Today’s staff egg hunt brought out the competitive spirit in full force! The teams were divided by last name—Team A (A–K) vs. Team B (L–Z)—with a strict rule: each staff member could collect no more than 5 eggs. After much running (Yes, running in the hallways!), laughing, and strategizing… Team B emerged victorious! However, Team A has officially lodged a complaint. It appears there may have been some shenanigans involved—rumors of early entry into the building and other mysterious trickery are swirling.

Congratulations to Hill City Elementary School for having the best student attendance for the month of March! Way to go Hawks!!

We are cheering for Leighton in Ms. Jenkins' class! After working super hard, she has mastered all of the kindergarten sight words! Leighton celebrated her reading success by visiting the Book Vending Machine for a great new read. Congratulations, Leighton!

Steele Ray, a fourth grader, brings sunshine and joy wherever he goes! His "awesome ride" is more than just cool—it sparks meaningful conversations among students about abilities, kindness, and inclusion. Steele’s love for music and his friendly smile draw everyone in. Students love to learn his favorite songs and serenade him. Steele has a special place in our hearts—teachers and students alike. His presence reminds us that every child shines in their own unique way.

These four fabulous fourth-graders are rockin’ their personalized learning goals! Big congratulations to Jaden and Shelby for topping the Math Leader Board, and to Shelby and Ellie for earning the top spots on the ELA Leader Board! To celebrate they chose new books from the Book Vending Machine!

Our third graders are "digging" their new dictionaries! THANK YOU to the Rotary Club of Jasper and the Community Bank of Pickens County for generously providing these important reference tools. While technology is always at our fingertips, there’s still something special about flipping through the pages of a real dictionary to find just the right word.

We have a new Hawk recipient to celebrate — our counseling intern, Ms. Jordan Thompson! She was chosen by Mrs. Smith, who shared: "Although she is not an 'official' part of the HCES staff, she has worked diligently on projects, lessons, and various acts of service from the day she began her practicum. She is always eager to lend a hand wherever needed. Her friendly smile and calm countenance have quickly won the hearts and trust of our students." Congratulations!

The hallways were rockin’ this morning with high fives, fist bumps, and loud cheers as we gave our Special Olympics team the send-off they deserved! We are so proud of Steele, Liam, and Paxton for representing Hill City. In our eyes, they were winners from the start — and now the whole county knows just how amazing they are! #SpecialOlympics

News from fourth grade!
Mrs. Connelly's ELA classes have been working on comparing and contrasting two texts. Students are using various graphic organizers to communicate themes, character traits and setting. Students have also been spending their Hawk Bucks to lead the morning announcements and to "purchase" Mrs. Patterson's and Dr. Kretschmar's rolling chairs!
