Mrs. Green's 3rd Grade Discovery students are working on coding with a programmable robot mouse! They’re sharpening their problem-solving skills, critical thinking, if-then logic, and learning the power of collaboration as they navigate fun coding challenges. March is Gifted Education Month in Georgia, and we’re celebrating their creativity, innovation, and perseverance!

Spring Picture Day is March 26th! Individual and class pictures will be made. If you wish to order a class picture, please send $10 (cash or check payable to Strawbridge Studios).

A Day in the Life of Mrs. Connelly's 4th Grade ELA Classroom!
From analyzing characters to celebrating achievements, Mrs. Connelly’s fourth graders had an exciting day of learning!
* Character Study: Students explored how characters change throughout a story.
* ELA Leaderboard: Congratulations to our Top 3 students for their hard work!
* Bilingual Read-Aloud: A special treat with ESL teacher, Mrs. Towers, who shared "Ya’s Backyard Jungle" in both Spanish and English.

It's Time to Pass the Hawk Again!
Congratulations, Nurse Melissa! Ms. Jenkins chose Nurse Melissa for these reasons: "Nurse Melissa goes above and beyond to make sure all students and staff are cared for here at Hill City. She is always so helpful and caring when taking care of our students. Despite her extremely busy schedule, she remains kind and professional, even in stressful situations. Her ability to make every student feel at ease when they visit her clinic is commendable. She is truly invaluable, and we are extremely blessed to have her as our school nurse." Congratulations and thank you, Nurse Melissa, for all you do!

More Highlights from Our Pickens Page Turners Awards & Celebration!
At last Saturday’s Pickens Page Turners Society Awards & Celebration we were honored to welcome local author and Pickens High School graduate, Jeremy Allen, as he shared his new novel, "The Doors of Tommy O'Rourke." Mr. Allen inspired our young readers, writers, and artists by sharing his journey as an author, reminding them to have the courage to follow their dreams. The students especially enjoyed the Q&A session, where they had the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into the writing process. Thank you, Mr. Allen, for encouraging our students to dream big and believe in their creative potential!

Celebrating Our Pickens Page Turners!
We are still cheering for this amazing team of third and fourth graders! These dedicated students are members of this year’s Pickens Page Turners Society (with several returning members from last year!), and they took on the challenge of an extracurricular literary competition for students in grades 3-6 across Pickens County. Each student read a novel and showcased their talents in one of three competition categories: Fan Art, Book Review, or Poetry. Their dedication and love for literature truly paid off at last Saturday’s awards celebration! Congratulations to our winners! Book Review: 🥇 Anna - 1st Place 🥈 Kate - 2nd Place 🥉 Mack - 3rd Place Fan Art: 🥇 Isabella - 1st Place Poetry: 🥇 Atlas - 1st Place 🥈 Lydia - 2nd Place 🥉 Kate - 3rd Place We are so proud of the entire team! Your stamina and perseverance shined brightly! Keep turning those pages!

Bring on the Fair!
Here we go! Please join us for our Spring Book Fair! The third grade students have their designated shopping day on Monday. Each grade level has their own special day.

What better way for Mrs. Moss’ 3rd graders to be introduced to fractions than with a Hershey Chocolate Bar! Students were highly engaged in this edible activity. Who wouldn’t be?! Students demonstrated knowledge of partitioning their bar into many different fractions, showing equivalent fractions, realizing 12/12 equals one whole bar, and 13/12 is really 1 whole and 1/12. YUM!

National School Breakfast Week!
Do busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for finding the time for a healthy breakfast? Our school cafeterias can help. We offer nutricious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat milk to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day.
A special shout out of thanks to our Cafeteria ladies for all they do every school day!

We are sharing Book Joy with our Book Fair!

Even after retiring from PCSD 10 years ago, Mrs. Ruth just couldn't leave us behind—and we’re so grateful she didn’t! She dedicates her time daily to Hill City Elementary's media center, helping our Hawks. She’s also a legend at Heritage Days, known as the “lady who tells stories with the dancing man.” Her passion, kindness, and love for our school make Hill City a little brighter and happier every day!
Thank you, Mrs. Ruth, for all you do!

What a great reading incentive! Mrs. Smith's 2nd graders were so excited to be guest readers in Kindergarten and Pre-K! Some were so dedicated that they even gave up their recess to practice! They carefully selected their books and rehearsed multiple times to make sure their reading debut was a success. The best part? They loved it so much that they're already begging to do it again! #ReadAcrossAmerica

More of our amazing kindergartners are showing off their reading superpowers!
Carter has mastered his kindergarten sight words, and Evelyn has completed her kindergarten fluency folder! Keep up the great work, Carter and Evelyn! We are proud of your reading success!

Another reading achievement to celebrate! Carson, a kindergartner in Mrs. Roper's class, has completed all of his kindergarten sight words. Now he is ready to take on the first grade sight word list. Congratulations, Carson! Enjoy your new book from the Book Vending Machine!
