The Georgia Department of Education recently released the four-year graduation rate for all high schools and school districts. We are happy to report that the graduation rate for the class of 2024 at Pickens High School is 91.84%.
The four-year graduation rate topped the state’s average of 85.4% by over 6%, according to a new report from the Georgia Department of Education released today. Georgia, along with the rest of the United States, calculates graduation rates based upon a 4-year cohort methodology.
“This achievement is a testament to the resilience and commitment of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the support of our families,” said Superintendent Dr. Travis Thomas. “We want our graduates prepared for their next steps, and it is our aspiration as a school district to have every PHS graduate either enrolled, enlisted or employed once they earn their diploma.”
Georgia calculates a 4-year adjusted cohort graduation rate as required by federal law. While all states use the same calculation, each state sets its own requirements for students to earn a regular high school diploma. Georgia has some of the highest requirements in the nation for students to graduate with a regular diploma. Georgia also calculates a 5-year rate, which tracks those students who need additional time to graduate.
