Pickens County School District held their first annual Safety Summit on Tuesday, November 5th, in conjunction with Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.
The main purpose of the summit, which included a unified community of school administrators, teachers, nurses, school staff, and law enforcement, was to examine the school-level roles and responsibilities in response to two separate crises. For this summit, the participants discussed how they would respond to a severe weather transportation scenario and classroom medical scenario. The school district is hopeful that the Safety Summit becomes a yearly event.
“No school, or school district is immune to potential threats,” said Superintendent Dr. Travis Thomas. “Tabletop training exercises allow our schools’ crisis response teams and leaders to be better prepared and ready to effectively respond when needed.”
The three-hour tabletop included discussions pertaining to preparedness and planning, command and control, interagency coordination, communication, resource management, and more.
This initiative underscores Pickens County School District’s unwavering commitment to safety and preparedness, ensuring the highest standards are maintained for the students, staff, and stakeholders we serve.
